Autumn Décor for your Home Posted On 22 September 2021

Getting your Home ready for Autumn

Nature is doing its part and creating a gorgeous landscape of autumnal colours outside which means it’s time for you to start creating a cosy escape inside your home too.

A great place to start is your front door, for two reasons. One: It’s the first glimpse neighbours have of your home, making it an ideal opportunity to create a warm welcome. Two: It’s the easiest! Get foraging for greenery, pumpkins, wheat sheafs- whatever captures your imagination. Why not create a fall garland, wreath or spray pumpkins and squashes to decorate your front steps?

Inside your home you can still incorporate fall tastefully. A hollowed out, painted pumpkin makes a fantastic vase for dried flowers or leaves. Make use of those pinecones and acorns you’ve foraged, either leave natural or spray-paint in gold or silver and fill a vase! Add a simple strip of ribbon to the top to finish the look.

For simple, classic centrepieces for you table, tie coloured string around dried wheat bundles and place them inside glass cloches for an elevated centrepiece. When winter comes around, switch the wheat for pine needles and red berries. You could also turn apples into candleholders and fill you home with the scent and sights of fresh apples. All you need to do is core the apple and stick a taper candle inside.

Make use of autumn inspired colours around your home. Pick dark reds, deep greens and splashes of gold. Adding rugs to hardwood floors or add throws to blankets and armchairs to do this subtly. Touches of gold can be incorporated through lighting also. Mason jars can be filled with ‘fireflies’: LED string lights woven between acorns and pinecones or simply on their own conjure up memories of how you might have spent the last warm nights of the summer as a child — except now you don’t have to run around the yard catching bugs.

How overboard you take the decorations are up to you, creating a space you feel comfortable in and look forward to returning to is key when making your house a home.
